The days are heating up, the sun is shining and the lazy days of Summer are on their way. When the weather is hot, and you are relaxing in the sunshine, the last thing you want is a steaming cup of coffee. Enter cold brew. Cold brew is the perfect way to have everything you love about coffee, but in a cool and refreshing drink!
There are few better ways to enjoy a warm, balmy Summer’s day than with a glass of cold brew coffee.
Better office coffee is also about being able to make the right drink for the right time, so this week, I thought I’d show you all how to brew your own cold brew in the office or at home, and get us all in the mood for Summer!
Let’s get one thing very clear before we start, though. Cold brew is NOT iced coffee. If you order cold brew at a coffee shop, don’t expect the kind of iced frapa-capa-mocha-chino that is the staple at your local Starbucks or Costa.
Cold brew is brewed in its own unique way, making it an accomplished coffee drink in its own right, with a different taste profile and a smoother, sightly sweeter flavour. Cold brew has a lower acidity that coffee made with hot water and is actually more concentrated that hot-brewed coffees. It’s delicate, light and wonderfully refreshing.
You can make your own cold brew coffee in the office in three easy steps:
NOTE: Follow the same brewing principles as outlined in this article to make sure your cold brew coffee is of the highest quality possible.
1. Grind your coffee coarsely, and add 70g to around 350ml of water (adjust for strength) in a brewing container. Any plastic container will do, as long as it has a lid.
2. Once all the grounds are moist, cover the container and let it sit for 12 hours, either in the fridge or at room temperature.
3. After 12 hours, strain the coffee through a cheese cloth or a really fine-mesh sieve. Serve over ice or enjoy on its own, with milk or without. Enjoy!
There you have it – an easy way to enjoy cold brew in the office this summer. Maybe you could take a lead from our friends at Pact Coffee, and install an ice machine in the office?
@GreenerMediaUK Oh we do love a good cold brew. We bought an ice machine for the office especially for this!
